Will Hypnosis Really Work For Me?

Do Hypnotist’s have special powers?

Will they find out all of your deep dark secrets?

Can they get you to do something against your will?

Will they put you into a Zen-like trance in which you will be in some sort of metaphysical state?

The answer to all of these questions is NO!  There are a lot of myths out there regarding what being hypnotized is all about.  Hollywood has misinformed people about hypnosis.  It is simply a state of mind and bringing it about is simply a technique.  The goal of hypnosis is the successful installation of a desired outcome deep into the subconscious mind from where it eventually expresses automatically without any further conscious activity.  It is all about direct communication with the unconscious mind and a very powerful tool for bringing about change at the unconscious level.  It is difficult, if not impossible to control behaviours through conscious effort alone.

The word “hypnosis” usually conjures up certain images in people’s minds and these stereotypes are sometimes hard to change.  The real truth is that hypnosis is a perfectly natural occurring state and something that should be embraced for producing personal growth and personal empowerment.  But still the myths persist.

  • Hypnosis is not: sleep, a state of unconscious, being gullible, being weak minded, being controlled by someone or losing self-control.
  • Hypnosis is: an awake state, a state of relaxation, about imagination, an exercise for the mind, a rapport with the subconscious and the ultimate display of control.

It is a means to change limiting beliefs and / or behaviours and produces the most immediate results that many people have spent years trying to change with limited success.  Hypnosis is a tool to make those changes come about rapidly.

The techniques of Hypnosis dates back to 2000 BC to the founder of Chinese Medicine “Wang Tai”.  Over the years it has evolved and today the majority of hypnotists or hypnotherapists practicing will use some form of the Erickson approach.  Erickson believed that the unconscious mind was always listening and that, whether or not the patient was in trance, suggestions could be made which would have a hypnotic influence, as long as those suggestions found resonance at the unconscious level.

Hypnosis can be effective for a wide variety of conditions and also in the alleviation of pain.  The following is by no means a complete list of some of the conditions that it helps with:  changing behaviours such as: smoking, alcohol, weight control, nail biting etc.; specific fears or phobias such as: fear of heights, public speaking, water, snakes etc.;  pain management such as: headaches, traumatic injuries, post surgery pain, fibromyalgia pain, arthritic pain etc.; stress management and relaxation such as: anxiety, anger, worry, panic attacks, pre-surgery jitters, stress reduction, sleep, depression etc.; empowerment, motivation and self esteem such as: success, abundance, body image, assertiveness, motivation, goal achievement, problem solving, procrastination, confidence etc.; grief resolution and academic improvement.

I hope that this has opened up a world to you that may have been unfamiliar or confusing and is now another means of making long lasting, fast and possibly life altering changes in getting past behaviours that may have been in your way or holding you back.  I also hope that you see another option for pain management without years of therapy.
